• More Going on Than Ever Before...

We're heading out tonight on the redeye to do a site survey of the venue for the PBS shoot in New Orleans. This is such a cool thing - both for us and for the industry. This will be a great showcase of the industry and I hope the video game industry comes out and shows its support. It really needs to do that!

On the other hand, the Wall of Sound concept (music, implementation, music editing, mixing and mastering is really starting to take wing. It really is my creative passion and I'm going to make that happen with the boys from Mass Effect/Mass Effect 2 and others. Should be fun!

More soon!

• Mass Effect 2 Launch Day!

Some great activity on launch day. Our intrepid reporter, Mr. Jimmy Hinson has put together these links to music-centric reviews:

Gamespot
"The fantastic musical score and sound effects do more than their share to enhance the production, working the deeper end of the sonic spectrum and communicating tension and weight without getting heavy handed or manipulative."

Game Informer

• NFC Game

BioWare/EA stepped it up and knocked it out of the park when every red blooded North American man was watching the NFC Game this past Sunday. They hosted a live chat during the game and then very auspiciously aired the Launch Trailer during the last 2 minutes of the game! What a great way to reach the entire continent in one fell swoop. There is something in the air about ME2!

Launch Related Site

• Contemplating a Big Future

With so much personal family stuff going on right now (thank god...), I am contemplating the future. I believe that Mass Effect 2 will be a big success when it launches next week. Check out the IGN review (link below). Sound got a 10! I am smiling a big fat grin. The Mass Effect series is incredible and has pushed me way out of my musical zone, which is a great thing. I love the challenge of it, but frankly I really love that the music looks to be something of a success. That's all I really wanted. I wanted it to be good. It was important to me and I felt true passion working on it. I hope others feel that when they listen and play.

So now with family time giving me some time to reflect, I'm contemplating a bigger future. The collaboration with David, Sam, Jimmy and Brian was fun. However, we only scratched the surface of what is possible. I like the idea of using the best talent to do what they do best in a collaboration and I think I could push that farther for even better results next time around. I'm envisioning Wall of Sound (my actual company name under which the ME2 soundtrack was produced) to be a force in music where the best bits of talent from various composers, implementers, music editors, and mix engineers come together to create flawless and compelling musical landscapes.

We started this on Mass Effect 2 and maybe now it's time to move boldly into the future.

• ME2 Soundtrack Out in the World

Hey! ME2 OST at #38 on Amazon. Not bad. It's out there. People are actually buying this! (snigger).

I listened to it a few times and thought the mastering added quite a bit to the quality of the sound. It really did improve. I love the one bad review where the guy said the audio was clipping. I had to laugh (because it really does not clip at all) because he probably is listening on some crappy system and you know, it's his equipment or laptop that is clipping... and of course, as the internet goes, he's out there letting everyone know how horrible the sound is. LOL!!

It's cool Not everyone will like it, but I did my best on it and I thought Sam, Dave and Jimmy did a great job as well. Sam has such a unique sound. I barely gave him any notes during production because I didn't want to screw with it. Dave's work is just beautiful sounding to me. It's got a lush vibe to it and it brought a really nice feeling to the overall score. Jimmy is a real find. He's got a very song-centered musical vocabulary that I really enjoy listening to.

We're all trying to figure out how to work together again on other projects. It's a good team and I'd like to bring more people into the mix. We've got Brian DiDomenico doing the implementation and music editing. But maybe get mixers, like my friend John Rodd to work on our stuff. Just really get it specialized so that the sonic quality and the creativity continues to improve. Lots to discuss over the next weeks...

Launch Related Site

• Welcome to my new website!

January 13, 2010

Hello All who visit this sacred place! Apparently, I am legend (see press release link below). This is very funny to me since I just took out the trash and made dinner. I mean, legends don't do that, do they?

In any case, I'm really glad to finally have a place to call my internet home. I had one for many years, but the funny thing about that was that I had absolutely no way at all to update that site. No way to add anything. No way to subtract anything. No way...

Mass Effect 2 is coming out on January 26th. Yay. The soundtrack is released on January 19th. Yay again.

Would like to thank the composers who worked on it all with me: Sam, David, Jimmy. You guys are truly gifted. If anyone likes the soundtrack, I'm the lead composer of it and these guys worked with me on it. If anyone feels that it...asucks... then I had nothing to do with it and it's all their fault.

Also Brian, you were stellar on the implementation, man! I cannot wait to play a game with a soundtrack I was responsible for, both the composition and the implementation. Thanks so much for doing such a dedicated job!

Anyway, on this website, I can actually write words as opposed to music, I can post music so someone can actually hear it and I can make a nice album of photos of all of the amazing places I've been. Looking forward to throwing up... I mean putting it all up. :) Ciao for now.
